about
AHO Studio Ltd is a multidisciplinary design and research practice based in Aotearoa New Zealand, founded by architectural designer and creative researcher Ben.
Our work sits at the intersection of architecture, visual communication, and Māori–led research, guided by a commitment to meaningful, context-driven design.
“Aho” refers to a thread, line, or lineage — a guiding strand. This idea shapes how we approach every project: with connection, clarity, and purpose.
our practice
we work across three interconnected streams:
AHO ARCHITECTURE
Conceptual and schematic architectural design, spatial thinking, and visualisation. We develop early-stage design strategies that explore form, atmosphere, materiality, and the narratives that connect people to place.
AHO DESIGN
Branding, type, visual identity, and bespoke creative outputs. We help organisations, collectives, and communities express who they are through thoughtful, culturally aware design.
AHO RESEARCH
Research, consultation, and strategic design. We support clients to navigate complexity, tell their stories with integrity, and make informed, future-focused decisions.
our approach
Across all work, we emphasise:
Kaupapa Māori thinking: centring manaakitanga, whakapapa, whanaungatanga, and whenua where appropriate
Purposeful design: every decision is intentional and grounded in context
Collaboration: genuine relationships with clients, communities, and partners
Clarity and craft: high-quality outputs, clear communication, and thoughtful detail
AHO exists to support meaningful projects. Work that strengthens identity, tells stories with care, and creates outcomes that feel authentic to people and place.
We believe design and research are powerful tools for shaping the environments and futures we share.
